SIMPLICITY

Lethokuhle Msimang

She's carrying a baby on her back,

resting a neat pile of sticks on her head,

As a newspaper floats out of place

landing near her feet on the red sand,

it’s heading quotes a speech by P.W. Botha --

“ Hedgehogs are not porcupines

and lizards are not crocodiles

simply because they look alike...”

Unable to read she uses the paper

to fuel the fire preparing a supper,

perhaps thought it a gift from the gutter.

She learn't an inked paper burns just as efficiently as a clear one,

A fairly simple lesson...
